Weekly Elevation
#9: March 2, 2026
The Weekly Elevation is a little boost to your inbox and subconscious mind every Monday morning to elevate your week ahead.
This weekend I couldn’t stop looking at the flowers. It was like my brain put a filter on that made it impossible not to notice the pretty pink petals blooming from tree branches that looked like they were still undecided if it was time for it to be spring.
Does that ever happen to you when the world feels insane? Does your brain suddenly find the birds more mesmerizing and the leaves greener, too?
I think maybe my brain does it as a way to keep me sane…to counter the news. To show me that yes that is happening and also look right here, right in front of you! This cute little slug is here too!
So much of the brain’s job is to keep us safe, and it always fascinates me what mine chooses to do to accomplish this. Sometimes it has much less kind tactics of ensuring perceived safety (negative self talk, I’m lookin at you!), but yesterday as the colors of the sky and clouds mixed together in the kind of way that made me want to steep in it, I felt a wave of gratitude for this particular tactic.
It would have been easy for the brain to spin out in stories of worst case scenarios and what if’s — historically that tactic has worked well to ensure that while yes, I feel horrible at least my brain thinks I’m prepared.
It would have been totally reasonable for the brain to highlight the fear and the scary unknowns. That’s a common one for me too.
But for whatever reason, this time it chose the birds. It chose to make the frogs outside my bedroom window louder last night, and the ducks splashing in the sometimes-mud-puddle sometimes-lake in my behind my yard this morning that much sweeter.
What’s your brain doing today? How is it trying to make sense of everything? There is no right or wrong here — just curiosity.
If you want to, you could try to show your brain the birds too. Give it a dose of flower petals and tree trunks and notice what happens.
We can hold the hard with the beautiful, but sometimes we just need to remind our brains how.
xo,
Kelsey
